PERDICES ALTUBE
There is an old Hindu proverb that goes: The longest journey begins with a single step”.
Perdices Altube took the first step about thirty years ago, with a purposeful goal: to breed red-legged partridges maintaining a genetic line and behaviour similar to wild birds. A difficult task if one takes into account that at that time, there was no knowledge at all about this and the history of initial results was disappointing.
We soon discovered that to carry out this project successfully it was essential to implement what is now called R&D (Research and development) and take to heart Petra Kelly’s phrase “everybody wants to go back to nature, but not on foot”, in our breeding centre we applied the scarce technological knowhow existent at the time, which was used for breeding other birds.
Constant research and renovation of the breeding system for our partridges, obtaining favourable as well as unfavourable results, paved the way to reach our goal: A strong bird, faithful to the phenotype and genotype of our unique red-legged partridge. This was a challenge that entailed a great deal of work and dedication on the part of our workforce, as well as a substantial financial investment.
After years of constant evolution to improve our partridges and essential products for their maintenance and restocking, for which the most important hunting organisations, associations and hunting ground owners (for restocking) have shown their appreciation by the confidence they deposit in us year after year. An energetic character, powerful flight and natural behaviour being just some of the characteristic features of our partridges. More than enough reasons for us to use the saying: ”From wild grandparents we obtain wild grandchildren”.
